One of the USA’s 50 states, Hawaii is made up of 132 islands in the North Pacific Ocean, some 1625 miles to the southwest of mainland USA. The majority of the islands are little more than tiny, uninhabited volcanic overspill, although the main six islands contain a total of roughly a million inhabitants.
The island of Oahu houses approximately 80% of Hawaii’s inhabitants, as well as being home to famous areas such as Pearl Harbour, Sunset Beach and Honolulu, the islands’ capital. Honolulu is a lively and cosmopolitan city that is renowned for its dramatic location, overlooked by Diamond Head, a dormant volcano, and bordered by the legendary Waikiki Beach. |
